Beach trip 2010

I hope this was the first of two beach trips this summer but we will see (a trip near Panama City Beach scheduled for Labor Day). Cape San Blas is a beautiful place in Florida located between Port St. Joe and Apalachicola. It's called the "Forgotten Coast" and there's a reason for it. I saw maybe 1 fast food restaurant after we drove into Florida. We cooked some great meals and ate at a few surprisingly good local restaurants. There weren't any condos, just beach houses on the cape. We woke up each day at our normal early hour and played in the sand. The hurricane out in the Gulf caused some pretty high tides and tide pools on the beach, which Davis loved. He would sit in the water and move wet sand back and forth to his bucket, stopping only to throw it at someone.

One day we drove to Apalachicola to check it out. Not much to report. We had a recommendation for the Owl Cafe. The person knew we had small children but didn't mention it was a white table cloth kind of place. I think the waitress thought we were crazy. The kids were fine once they had food. Speaking of seafood, Davis can eat an enormous amount of shrimp at one meal. I hope it's not possible to consume too much shellfish because he exceeded the limit for sure.

Most of Thursday was an uneventful day. It rained a lot so we could only take short trips to the beach. We decided to eat ice cream at Coneheads and go to the lighthouse. Laine ended up falling down the stairs inside the lighthouse and busted her head. Keat and I took her to the ER and she was so brave getting stitches. We were so proud of her. Keeping her out of the water and the wound clean was a little difficult at the beach. Of all places for that to happen. Luckily it was a new nice hospital very close to the beach house. Grandpa had to carry her down 80+ steps after it happened. His soreness may last as long as Laine's bruises.
