We recently took over a year hiatus from the zoo. When Davis was an infant we went to the zoo pretty much every Saturday. The renovations began in Fall 2009, which made it really unenjoyable to walk around every detour and there were several animal extinctions (gorilla, tiger, sea lions). Well, the new exhibits are finally finished. We spend so much time at the pool that we decided not to get a family zoo membership this summer but this past weekend was $5 admission. We decided this was the perfect opportunity to see all the new animals and exhibits. Of course it had to be the hottest day of the year but we all enjoyed it. We rode the train, carousel, and saw lots of animals. There are now 3 elephants roaming the new African Savanna section. When we got to the giraffes, I asked Davis, "what is that?" He said, "dragon." Hum, I think we need to work on wild animal identification. He carried around his toy Buzz Lightyear camera and took pictures of all the animals. Every time he pushed the button, it would say "This is Buzz Lightyear to the rescue." He took pictures while I carried him. After the zoo, we went to our friend's house to cool off in their big inflatable water slide. Super fun for the kids and parents.
We rode the carousel twice and it went much better than our previous attempts to ride the one at the Galleria. Davis wanted to ride "baby jaguar." Can you tell how much we were all sweating? Not the best pictures but it was worth it.
